A Citroën what? A Citroën MAZU? Well, this is my mum's AZU, put the 2 together and you get MAZU. When you know that in Dutch Mum = Ma, then MAZU makes even more sense...
So what about this special little van?

After some changes of mind the future owner of this car decided she'd really like a 2cv van. I was running this van at the time and it was considered suitable.

as found...

When found it didn't look too good but it was not that bad. The 435 engine and gearbox were replaced by a 1973 602 engine and gearbox. All lights were fixed, the brakes were rebuilt and it ran pretty fine.

Up and running

It still needed some exterior work though. At first the idea was to make it a running restoration. But the future owner wanted a truly NEW 2cv. The requested specification was a bit altered, it would have to have disc brakes and a stronger engine as well. And it should look like a 50s 2cv van!

All the mechanicals were transferred over to a 1973 AKS P.O.

Summer 2000
The car is stripped leaving a rolling shell. All slightly rusty bit were cut out off the body, starting with floors and sills. The rear wings are cut off as well, these will be replaced with new small ripple ones.

Naked...

During the spring of 2001 the work is continued. After properly cleaning suspected areas with a high speed rotating wire brush, additional rust is found. So more cutting and repairing is called for.

Work is continued on the area around the front windscreen. Also, the door locks are converted to modern security type.

The welding is progressing again.

Is there an end to the rust?

Holes for the rear windows cut, strengthening removed.

Rusty rear end and rusty right inner wing.

And out goes the rusty rear end, not much left now.

Removing the body seal, and suprise suprise, even more rust!

Security doorlock and problematic inner wing being fixed with even more donor parts.

Trial fitting and no more underseal (but more rust hidden underneath!).

Footwell, bulkhead and windscreen surround welding.

New dash shelf, increasing structural rigidity greatly.

Plans for this car have changed. My mum now has trouble driving cars without power steering, so i've decided to keep this car for myself and make something very special out of it.
